Obituary

Daniel James LaPalme unexpectedly yet peacefully passed away on May 10th, 2024 at his home in Langley, BC.  He was a loving son, brother and uncle who will be missed greatly. Daniel will be remembered as a caring, kind and deeply sentimental man with an altruistic soul.

Daniel developed a fearsome intellect over the course of his life which was complemented by an innate empathy and sense of caring for those he surrounded himself with.

His academic journey began at the Mount Assumption Institute, where a love for learning was instilled by his many passionate teachers. He continued his education at York University, where he received a BA in Economics, followed by an MBA at Queens University through their Executive Program.

Daniel went on to thrive in the high-tech industry where his work ethic and rigour was admired by colleagues and management alike. His fastidious pride to produce meaningful work carried through to all aspects of his life.

Further, Danny enjoyed nature and the outdoors tremendously. He was an avid gardener, spending time tending to his plants in an effort to make homemade preserves. You could also find him on the ice playing hockey, on the green playing golf or on a hike. He was a veracious reader who engaged in all topics he could glean a lesson from. History, politics and socioeconomics were top contenders.

Daniel’s great joy in life were his dogs which he raised and cared for with unbound love. Sawyer, his first Golden Retriever, kept a close place in Daniel’s heart. Sawyer was preceded by Stoneflys River “Ranger” his second and final Golden Retriever who became a ‘Master Hunter’ and was honoured with many accolades.  He was a member of Fraser Valley Retriever Training Club in Langley, BC as well as the Ottawa Valley Hunting Retriever Club in Ottawa, ON. The commitment, dedication and love Daniel had for his pets was a true testament to his generous, kind hearted soul.

He will be deeply missed by his mother, Selena; his siblings, Mary Anne, Richard, James (Barbara); and brother in-law Steve; nieces and nephews; and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Guy LaPalme and Sister Jane.

Daniel has requested a private service and will be laid to rest next to his father in Saint Mathieu Cemetery in Hammond, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charities that were nearest and dearest to his heart.

I’m going to share the memories I have of my cousin . In the last year 2 years we would share the occasional message about his dog Ranger and what he had accomplished . We shared some heartfelt messages about life in general. I recall his speech he gave at his sister’s wedding when the mic dropped and he was quick to make the crowd laugh. I recall the Boxing Day hockey games , and the way the “boy cousins and uncles” would chat about the game at the gym in Hammond . He’d always have that smile when the aunts would stop to have a chat . His smile was truly infectious. I was saddened to hear of your passing dear cousin and my thoughts are with your family and friends as they share fond and funny memories of you. Rest well

Danny was a loving and supportive uncle and a genuine role model. No words can express my grief, I am only left with our memories to live with now, memories I'll always cherish. Danny was more than just an uncle, he was a friend and a confidant and I will truly miss my golf partner.
