Marinus DeGroot of Hammond ON passed away peacefully on Monday July 24^th, 2023 in his 96^th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Wilhelmina (nee Vermeulen) and parents Jan and Martha (Van Kol) DeGroot.

Dear father of Mary (Pierre-Yves Lalonde), Martha (John Eligh), Joanne (Eric Waddell), John (Sheila Lacey) and Marcel (Gail MacDonald).

Cherished Opa of Michelle (Warren Beattie), René (Chloé Guindon), Pier-Gui (Stephanie Ahken), Benoit (Laura (née Hunt), and Joshua (Jennifer Sommerfeld) Lalonde; Adam (Jessica Courcy) and Matthew Eligh; Victoria (Daniel McHugh), Sarah (Patrick Gray) and Keith (Kaitlyn) Waddell; Michael (Minh Tram Nguyen), Tyler, and Erin DeGroot; Brennan (Kaylee), Elysha, Harrison, Brock, and Fraser DeGroot.

Fond great Opa of Mattéo, Thomas, Kai, Travis, Edwin, Finn, and Phoebe Lalonde; Oliver and Gemma McHugh, George and Hannah Gray, Riley and Walter Waddell; Kailee and Lavender Greenwald.

He is survived by brothers Cor (Joanna) and Carl (Pat), and sister-in-law Diane (John).

Predeceased by his sisters and brother-in-laws: Wilhelmina (Jack Toonders), Anna (Tony Toonders), Mary (Frank Toonders) and brothers, young Cor, John (Diane) and Jeff, sister-in-law Pat (Carl DeGroot) and his cousin Maria (Jack Toonders).

Survived by his sisters and brothers in-law, Anny, Jan, Maria (Cor Lijten) and Christ (Martina Donkers) Vermeulen of the Netherlands.

Predeceased by Friedes (Ella van Kemmenade) Vermeulen and Wim (Nelly Bechouwe) Vermeulen of the Netherlands.

Also survived by 28 Canadian and 9 Dutch nieces and nephews as well as their spouses, children, and grandchildren.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Civic Hospital for their understanding and compassion.

He inspired us with his work ethic and continual online research. He was an engineer at heart.

His sense of humour and smile remained till the end. We feel very blessed to have had him for as long as we did.

Funeral service will be held at Sainte-Félicité church, 1646 Landry Rd., Clarence Creek, Ontario, on Monday July 31st 2023, at 11 AM.

Our two families were bound by a very beautiful friendship and we will never forget it. Dear Family, We will always remember Uncle Mike (Mies) We were blessed to have known him. He was kind and very interested in everything and everyone and always glad he could talk Dutch again when we visited. The three times I came to visit in Canada a visit or even more visits were planned... He was my mum's cousin and ever since I visited with her they had great conversations and kept in touch by phone until the end. He will be missed. We will keep him in our thoughts and prayers. In thought we will be with you all in this time. Although he reached a blessed age, it still will be a great loss.
