Obituary
Mrs. Florence Edwards
(Nee Beaton) We are sad to announce the passing of Florence Mary Edwards at the age of 96 on February 13, 2025. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Ron Edwards (2004) and daughter, Susan (1980). Devoted mom to Jane (Bernie Lafrance), Ruth (Dave Sayer), Nancy (Martin Toonders), Martha, Bill (Micheline van Wylick), and Rachel (Doug Sanderson). Proud and doting grandma to Leslie, Scott, Paul, Craig, Mason, Bryce, Emily, Spencer, and Benjamin along with their partners. Cherished great-grandma to Quinn, Reese, Cameron, Brody, Adelie, Rory, Holden, and Bronwyn. Predeceased by her sister Doreen and brother Ken (Wilma Merrifield and Jean Magladry). Fondly remembered by her in-laws Robert Burns, Bill Anderson and Sally Edwards and predeceased by Ron’s siblings Harold (Virley), Robert (Sally), Myles (Milly), Helen (Robert Burns), Alice (Bill Anderson) and Barry.
The daughter of the late Margaret (Kinsella) and the late Angus Beaton, Florence proudly spoke of being raised on a farm, a place she cherished deeply and never moved far from, living her entire life in Cumberland. She was hard working and always looking for ways to contribute. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Ottawa Civic Hospital (class of 1950), was a life member of the Cumberland Women’s Institute, a longtime member of St. Andrew’s United Church Women and a community volunteer. Florence was happiest when the house was full, whether it was for a meal, a coffee, a card party or fun by the pool. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends for her loyalty, hospitality and giving a helping hand. Florence didn’t sit idly and was an avid gardener, knitter, quilter and baker and rarely did she let you leave the house without a ‘treat for later’. Both Ron and Florence loved a road trip and travelled Canada coast to coast, enjoying its many landscapes, communities and varied ways of life but Florence would always say “the best part of a trip is coming home”.
The family extends special appreciation to the kind and dedicated staff, especially those on the 2nd floor, at the Promenade Retirement Home, and also with the Bayshore staff for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s United Church, Cumberland, or the Ottawa Mission.
The memorial service will be held at St. Andrews’s United Church, 2557 Old Montreal Road, Cumberland on Friday, February 21st, 2025 at 11:00am. The family will receive condolences at the church beginning at 10:00am. Family and friends are invited to gather across the street at the Maple Hall following the service.
