Obituary
(Nee Evans) Originally from Port Credit, Ontario, passed away on Friday July 19th 2024 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of 57 years of the late John Harrie Schreiber. Dear daughter of the late Urda “Buck” Evans and the late Marguerite “Babe” Alexandra Goodings. Loving mother of Susan (Dave Ransom), Laura Lee (Luc Henrie) and the late John Blakely Schreiber. Cherished grandmother of John, Jeremy, Jacob Schreiber of Florida, Melissa Ransom (Dan Greaves), Kevin Ransom, and Mathieu Henrie (Jade Conrad). She was the great grandmother of Sophie and Henry Greaves. She was predeceased by her brother, Malcom “ Bud ” Evans (the late Colleen) and her sister, Janet (late David Fayle). She will be fondly remembered by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Sally graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA then continued on to teachers college. Her early career was as a kindergarten teacher, but her love of reading led her to a second career later in life as a librarian. Sally was a country girl at heart who loved animals, the outdoors, gardening, canoeing, as well as many other activities including piano. Her genuine interest in others led to a wide group of friends extending back to her childhood circle who continued to meet regularly into their later years. Sally had a strong belief in giving back and was involved in many charities and church life. Her greatest love, however, was her family, who will miss her dearly.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Matthew Peacock and the palliative team from the Champlain LIHN, in particular Clara, Genevieve, Joelle, Linda, Kaylen as well as all of the other nurses and PSWs who helped the family make Sally more comfortable. Gratitude is also extended to the team at Maison de l’Est hospice for their care and compassion.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Scott Mission or to the Hospice Care Ottawa foundation.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
