Obituary
Originally from Kapuskasing, Ontario, and most recently a resident of Russell, Ontario, Richard Carriere passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the age of 74, following a sudden diagnosis of leukemia. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Wedge) Carriere, and the cherished son of the late Gerald Carriere and the late Doreen (Dumas) Carriere. Richard was a loving father to Derek (Lori Ann Charron) and Jennifer, and a proud grandfather to Gabriella and Noah Carriere, as well as Gavin Landriault (Stefanie Séguin) and Mia Landriault. He was also a devoted great-grandfather to Deacon, Waylon, and Leah Landriault. He was predeceased by his brother Derek. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Valerie (Aurel Godard) and Jerry (Kiyomi). Richard will also be fondly remembered by his brothers- and sisters-in-laws: Shirley (Roland Grzela), Linda (Nelson Garon), Yvonne (late John Monto), David Wedge (Louise Boucher), and Mike Wedge (Mariette Migneault), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Diane Wedge and his brother-in-law Marcel Wedge.
Richard was known for his compassionate heart, his generosity, and his larger-than-life personality. He had a way of making those around him feel welcomed, supported, and cared for. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. He will be truly and forever missed. Now at peace, Richard rides with the angels, free and at rest, his love continuing to echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate teams at The Ottawa General Hospital Emergency Department, as well as the Intensive Care Unit, Hematology, Oncology, and Nephrology departments, for their exceptional care and support. In memory of Richard, donations may be made to the Ottawa Humane Society or the Ottawa General Hospital Foundation.
