In Memory of My Friend Shirley. I had a friend, a wonderful friend, who became my first friend I made when I moved to Ottawa and started at a new High school, Rideau High in Grade 9. That was over 58 yrs ago! We were Besties from the start. We loved the same things, cheer-leading, school plays and sports, gymnastics, dances, p.j. sleepovers, shopping and trying new styles and fashions and keep adding new adventures as we aged together. We married our high school sweethearts within a month of each other. We travelled together on some trips and cruises and even did some camping. Many funny stories to tell. We celebrated many B.D.'s together, as we were only 4 days apart as November B.D.'s. We watched our children and grandchildren grow into beautiful people and were always bragging to each other about how proud we were as mothers. There was never a doubt about our connection. We were always there for one another through anything life brought us, whether being good, bad, sad or just challenging. Everything was made easier and better having each other to count on unconditionally. Thank you Shirley for being my Bestie for most of our lives. I will miss you forever. Until we meet again - and we will in spirit! Much love, Linda Thinking dearly of Shirley's lovely family at this sad time. I thank you so much for allowing me to have such precious time (5 hrs) two days before she passed away peacefully. I sat by her nice and close and held her hand and talked to her and reminisced and got to tell her again how much she was loved and her eyes opened for about 5 minutes and I knew we connected in spirit. I have been sick with Covid this past week and will not be able to go on Sun. for her life celebration on Sunday. I'm very sad about that but it can't be helped. My prayers are with all of you Ben, Etienne, Samuel, Grant, Maureen, Laura and Dean and extended family members too. Have a party after - She loved a good party and will be there in spirit.

My sincerest condolences to Shirley's family and friends. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I first met Shirley when I worked with her at the National Research Council. She was the first person there to welcome me with open arms. My son Kellen and I became close friends with Shirley and Ray. We shared many happy times with them. My forever friend Shirley will be dearly missed. Many friends come into our lives, but only a few leave with their footprints on our hearts.

To Shirley’s family - My sincere condolences to you. No one has the perfect words to make your sadness go away but may you find comfort in knowing that her life was well lived. I met Shirley years ago through my husband Ray Butland. They were longtime colleagues at NRC. They shared many, many laughs and good times. Throughout the years I got to know Shirley and Ray. Shirley was very kind to me when my husband died and I tried to reciprocate when her Ray passed away. Such is life…I value our time together and am so pleased to have shared special moments with her. Rest in peace, dear Shirley.

Our heartfelt condolences to all of Shirley’s family. She was such a dear lifelong friend to our Mom, Linda. Over the decades, they supported each other through all of life’s chapters and we, as the kids, fondly remember Shirley’s positivity, her laugh and her supportive presence. This includes the fun shenanigans at Linda’s 60th birthday where they dressed up in full rock star costumes and performed air bands on the stage. More recently , at Linda’s 70th, Shirley composed a special rhyming tribute to share with crowd that reflected on their long friendship. She will be sadly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.♥️ Andrea & family
