Mrs. Susan Bernard

(Nee Edgar)

Born and residing in Rockland, ON

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 74, Susan (Sue) left this earthly world and now rejoices within the warm embrace of her Lord.

After the sudden death of her husband, the late Maurice (Moe), in 1989, she raised their two boys by herself and was actively engaged in all of their sporting and other activities. She is survived by her beloved sons: Jason (Anne) and their sons: Harrison and Lawson of Langley, BC and David and his sons: Maurice and Edgar of Alfred, ON.

Cherished sister of Rod (Carole), Sue will also be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her dear friends Jacquie and Bill Hawken who were faithful friends and visitors throughout her life and in her final days.

Other than her husband, Maurice (Moe), she was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Winnifred Edgar (nee MacKenzie), her sister Vicki Edgar (the late Glen Nelson), her brothers Bruce and Ian Edgar (Diane).

Sue had a long career with Bell and had the good fortune to enjoy several years of retirement. She was a proud Grandmother to her four grandsons, Maurice, Edgar, Harrison and Lawson and was strong in her faith. Over the years, she was active in church, and considered her church community family. Sue was generous to family members and found personal fulfillment helping others. Anyone who knew Sue, knew she was a fiercely independent woman, a personality trait she had to the end.

The family requests that you consider an act of kindness for a friend or neighbour in memory of Sue.

Funeral service will be held at the St. Andrews United Church, 739 Saint-Jean St., Rockland, ON, on Friday May 19th 2023 at 11 AM.

Dear Jason, David and all of Sue’s family; Thank you for generously sharing Sue with so many of us! Her quick wit and formidable intellect kept us on our toes - her wise leadership as Biard Chair if our Church as well as Sunday School teacher and Superintendent was always respected. The whole congregation looked forward to her lemon squares at potluck events! As a personal friend, she made sure our times together were fun, stimulating and memorable. To Jason, David, Family Members & Friends, Muriel and I were saddened by the news of Susan's passing. We got to know her from attending Church Services at St. Andrew's United in Rockland. Also, Ray served with Susan on the Church Board of Directors. Susan was a highly respected and much loved member of the board, and she is going to be missed. Susan's genuine concern for the welfare and well-being of others was one of her trademarks and the family now asking all those who knew her to consider an act of kindness for a friend or neighbour is very fitting. My deepest sympathies to Susie’s family and friends. I go back far I knew all of the Edgar’s like Susie they were a beautiful family and they still are. Susie was always so kind and giving to everyone she knew and met. She was a beautiful lady and she will be missed. I am so sad that she has passed away with cancer.
